State Eligibility Explained
Participation is available across most of the country. Four states presently stand outside that position.
The Position In Brief
Sweepstakes casinos operate lawfully across the substantial majority of United States jurisdictions. Four presently stand outside that position.
Washington, Nevada and Idaho have excluded sweepstakes participation for a number of years. California joined them in January 2026 upon AB 831 taking effect. Readers resident elsewhere are in all likelihood eligible to participate.
Why Those Four Differ
Washington maintains the most restrictive posture toward online gaming in the country, with statutes drawn broadly enough to encompass the promotional model. Nevada protects its licensed commercial casino industry and regards sweepstakes operators as unlicensed competition. Idaho applies a comparably expansive construction of its gambling definitions. California represents the most recent addition, and AB 831 addressed dual-currency sweepstakes provision directly rather than incidentally.
Age Requirements
The threshold is 18 at most operators, though a number set it at 21, and in certain states the higher figure applies irrespective of operator preference. Each assessment in this register records the requirement for that operator. Age is confirmed during identity verification, so an inaccurate date of birth submitted at registration will surface subsequently and may cost the reader a settlement.
A Position Subject To Movement
State legislatures have grown considerably more active upon this subject through 2026, with committee activity in several jurisdictions beyond the four already closed. We reconcile availability against operator terms each month and record changes upon the individual assessment pages. Notwithstanding that, the operator’s own terms remain authoritative at the moment of registration and warrant a brief reading.
Participation While Travelling
Eligibility follows physical location rather than billing address. Operators employ geolocation, so accessing an account from an excluded state will restrict participation even where the account was opened elsewhere. Readers relocating permanently to one of the four should anticipate being able to withdraw an existing balance but not to continue participating.
